History of WMC Auxiliary Follies.....
The first Follies performance was in 1962. The director was Jim Dyas. He was a great
director and he said "I will produce a show in 2 hours flat." He was only off one minute the first night, two minutes
the second night and right on the button the last night. He directed the show from the wings and the music consisted of two
piano players.
Rehearsals were held at the Winchester Country Club and the performances were held at the Shenandoah
University in the Armstrong Auditorium. There was lots of hospital participation including doctors, nurses and staff.
Rehearsals have been held at the Episcopal Church, Conference Center at WMC and now Shenandoah University.
Directors were originally contracted through Cargill Productions until 1999 and since that time
we have contracted independent companies. The cast and crew have consisted of community and hospital volunteers making
new friendships and community cammaraderie.
The Follies is one of many auxiliary projects that promotes and improves the general health
of the community through education, service and goodwill. Participation of local businesses by sponsoring ads in the
program or being a corporate sponsor have played an integral part of keeping Follies alive.
Community participation is invited and needed to put on a performance such as this. Proceeds
from Follies each year has been used for a specific project that benefits the community and surrounding areas. Follies
has been continued each year since 1962.
